Both the present and future for the Laurel Tornadoes (6-6, 4-1) looked bright on Friday night, as freshman running back ZyQuez Moffett led the team with three rushing touchdowns en route to a commanding 43-6 win over Provine to advance to Round 2 of the Class 5A playoffs.

Heavy rainfall contributed to ball security issues early in the first quarter, with Laurel’s first two drives being cut short by fumbles. Provine capitalized on the second fumble, with sophomore quarterback Jay Thurman finding senior receiver Tashun Jamison on a deep pass to the back of the end zone for the first touchdown of the night.
