In a statement, the force said: "Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called to Hartness Road in Clifton just after 12.20am today to a report that a car had been deliberately driven at a woman.

"The woman was taken to hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening."

Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton said: "Officers were quickly on the scene of this incident and a car was stopped a short while later.

"We believe it was a targeted attack and all persons concerned are known to each other, there was no threat to the wider public.

"Violence is completely unacceptable on our streets and we will always take swift action when it is reported to us."

The incident took place as pubs in Britain reopened for the first time in almost four months following the coronavirus lockdown.

Mark Knowles, 58, who lives nearby, told NottinghamshireLive: "I didn't hear anything and only found out this morning when a friend told me about the cordon.

"I had expected it to be loud at the pub but it was quiet, and closed by 11pm."

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: "Waking up seeing the police parked outside that pub is nothing out of the ordinary sadly.
