Tour de France winner Chris Froome might have to pay for some extra baggage on his way home after showing off his collection of toy lions following victory in Paris.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a glass of champagne and a bottle of beer as he completed the ceremonial final stage on his way to the third win of his career on Sunday afternoon.

And Froome also got his hands on his 12th toy lion of the race after retaining the yellow jersey for the final time.

On Monday, Froome tweeted a picture of his collection with the caption: 'Time to head home with the boys #TDF2016. Thank you for all the kind messages, I appreciate every one of them.'

A lion is given to the yellow jersey holder at the end of each stage because it is mascot of French bank Credit Lyonnaise, which has sponsored the jersey since 1987.

Froome held the yellow jersey for 14 days during his latest victory, but will only head home with 12 cuddly toys due to two rest days falling immediately after he had retained first place.
