Leah Remini Reveals the Best Thing About Leaving the Church of Scientology
Ever since she left the Church of Scientology one year ago, Leah Remini hasn’t shied away from questions about the organization’s practices or beliefs.
So when asked once again about the controversial church on an appearance of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, she gave an honest, and somewhat comical, answer.
Host Andy Cohen wanted to know the best and worst things about Scientology, to which the 44-year-old responded, “The worst part [about Scientology] was I couldn’t drink every other day and best part [about leaving] is that I can drink every other day,” she said while taking a sip of red wine.
Leah — and her wine glass — on “Watch What Happens Live”As the actress promotes her new reality show, Leah Remini: It’s All Relative, she’s noted it’s still difficult to have lost such close friends as a result of her departure.
“You look through your phone [and] you’re like, ‘Oh I can’t call this person,'” she shared on Good Morning America. “But you know, as we were in that time of loss and grief, still sad we lost our friends, we also have to look at what we do have.”
The King of Queens star added, “We have great family. We have great friends still in our lives.”
Leah with (from L) her mother Vicki, husband Angelo and daughter SofiaLeah has previously stated her reason for leaving had to do with her daughter turning 10, which is when a church practice called “auditing” begins (an individual begins an in-depth study of Scientology). She also began questioning the actions of leader David Miscavige.
Although her friendships with famous Scientologists such as Kirstie Alley and Tom Cruise have soured, Leah seems content with her decision.
Leah Remini: It’s All Relative airs Thursdays, 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
