Newcastle coach spotted throwing object towards Liverpool bench before ruckus

A member of Newcastle United’s coaching team was spotted throwing an object at Liverpool’s bench during the last minute goal celebrations.

One of Eddie Howe’s backroom staff was spotted hurling a white object at Jurgen Klopp ’s team moments before the two benches confronted each other on the sidelines. A tetchy affair between the two sides ended with Liverpool securing all three points, courtesy of Fabio Carvalho’s 98th minute winner.

The Merseysiders felt aggrieved by the supposed time-wasting of the visitors, while the Magpies were furious by the fact eight minutes of added time were played when only five minutes was announced by the fourth official. However, the sight of one of the coaches on the Newcastle bench launching what appeared to be a tissue at the Liverpool group encapsulated the affair.

Newcastle record signing Alexander Isak netted a wonderful debut goal to give the Magpies a well deserved first-half lead. He thought he had doubled the lead with a similar finish to the first, only for the linesman’s flag to rule him offside.

VAR replays showed there were very fine margins in the division, prompting fury from Howe in his post-match interview. Roberto Firmino went on to equalise for the Reds soon after, before Carvalho struck in the dying seconds to raise the roof of Anfield and prompt a single missile to be thrown from the Newcastle bench.

And Klopp had a slight dig at the visitors in his post-match interview, lashing out at their alleged time wasting antics and saying they were “getting pretty much everything” from the officials. "Football can go in both directions but tonight it went in the right one, a perfect end of the game," Klopp said after the game. "I am really happy that everyone saw it tonight. It was hard to take.

"It was a difficult game anyway, Newcastle invested a lot to close us down. They were close to getting pretty much everything for it.

Of course everyone wants to see a football game and when it is interrupted that often it is not nice for anybody."The only chance we have, not just for this game but in general, the referee has to pick earlier yellow cards.

I don't know when the kicking the ball away stopped being a yellow card. When did this rule die?”
