Toast colour chart causes HUGE controversy on social media

Bread is great. But toast is better. It’s great at breakfast time and perfect last thing at night . You can’t go wrong with toast.

Or can you?

Everyone has their own preference for how toasted they like their toast – from barely scorched to totally incinerated. And a colour chart posted online by Twitter user Imzy to determine the perfect level of toastedness has sparked surprisingly passionate debate

The chart ranges from a Number One (hardly done) to a Number Nine (Dial 999). The correct answer, obviously, is five but everyone seems to have their own take on the subject.

Caledonian Rose on Twitter says that she would only accept 6, and was willing to go to war over it, Micky Cattle preferred a pallid 3.

Tiffany said 5 to 6 was the sweet spot and Syed came up with the most comprehensive answer so far, saying : “1 if you're in a hurry, 2 if you have to rush, 3 if you don't really mind, 4 if you do mind, 5 if you are serious about your toast, 6 if you like it cracky, 7 if you are lazy, 8 if you don't care, 9 you might as well stop having breakfast”

A few mavericks said ‘nine’ and one carbon maniac, Waqas, sent in a picture of his own ’10.’

In the interest of journalistic responsibility we should note that the FSA warn that very burnt toast could potentially pose a cancer risk. Acrylamide, a chemical formed when starchy foods are subjected to a high temperature, is a known carcinogen.
